Tough Times, Tough Castle!

Back in the late 13th century, King Edward I of England had a grand idea: to show off his power in Wales by building some seriously impressive castles. Caernarfon Castle was one of his pet projects. Construction started in 1283 and went on until 1330. Imagine the hustle and bustle of workers putting together those massive walls and towers

Fit for a King (and a Prince)

This wasn't just any old castle; it was fit for royalty. In fact, King Edward II's son, who would later become King Edward II himself, was born right there in Caernarfon Castle in 1284. Talk about a royal birthplace! The castle became the go-to spot for all sorts of fancy ceremonies and events, showing off the king's power and prestige.

Life wasn't all feasts and celebrations at Caernarfon Castle, though. It faced some pretty tough challenges, like when the Welsh rebelled during the Glyndŵr Rising in the early 15th century. The castle got a bit banged up, but it held its ground like a champ. It just goes to show how tough those old stones were!

A Castle with Character

Over the years, Caernarfon Castle got a few facelifts and changes to keep up with the times. But through it all, its unique character and history were carefully preserved. In 1986, it even got the ultimate stamp of approval when it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now that's what you call a castle with clout!
