Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, please contact us at bookings@ribride.co.uk or by calling 0333 1234 303 (a local rate number) and one of our team will be happy to help.

What is the minimum age for a RibRide?

On our Adventure RIB Tours the minimum age is 4yrs. For our Explorer RIB Tours the minimum age is 8yrs.

What should we wear?

Our RIBs are open to the elements and we go out in most weathers including the rain, so please dress appropriately for the weather and season. It is always cooler on the water.

The aim is not to get you wet, however we cannot guarantee this, so please make sure you have a waterproof layer, as it can get a bit splashy in certain conditions. Sensible shoes, no heels! In the colder months, hats and gloves are essential. Sunglasses are also a good idea.

Do we need to wear life jackets?

Yes, life jackets are mandatory for everybody onboard and are provided by RibRide. Our life jackets can accommodate up to a 50in chest. If you are larger than this, please call the office on 0333 1234 303 for advice.

Will we get wet?

We aim to keep you dry, but this is an adventure boat trip and the RIB is open to the elements. In certain weather and tidal conditions there is a chance you may get wet. We have limited numbers of waterproof jackets and trousers which you may borrow (subject to availability), however we cannot guarantee that you will stay dry. Please dress appropriately or bring a spare set of dry clothing if the weather is looking particularly inclement.

Do you go out in all weathers?

We always keep a very close eye on the weather and if the weather forecast deems the trip unsafe to go, we will endeavour to contact you 24 hours ahead, so please ensure we have the correct contact details for you.

If we have to cancel a trip due to the weather, you may re-arrange your trip for another date or you will be issued with a gift voucher to use at a later date.

We do still go out in the rain.

How fast to the boats go?

The maximum speed the RIB will travel at is 45mph. This will seem fast on the water, but it is not a dangerous speed and our experienced skippers will ensure you are kept entertained, thrilled and safe throughout your trip.

Can we get off the boat during the trip?

No, all tours are round trips and you will stay onboard for the duration of the trip. The RIB does not have a toilet, so please make sure you have used the RibRide facilities prior to boarding. If you need to use the facilities, please allow enough time to get to the departure point on time, particularly during busy periods.

Will we always get to the trip destination?

Very occasionally, it may not be possible to complete the tour as described. All our skippers have complete discretion to amend any trip to ensure all passengers have a safe and highly enjoyable experience. In this case you will still have an exciting adventure RIB tour, but it may not be as originally described.

Can I go on a RibRide if I am pregnant?

If you are pregnant, we advise against participating on a RibRide, as trips can be a bit bumpy in certain conditions. If you do want to go, we would ask that you consult with your doctor or midwife beforehand and consider booking this trip as a private event. We can then tailor the trip to suit your situation and the weather conditions on the day. If you choose to participate, this is entirely at your own risk.

I have some mobility issues, can I still participate?

We welcome customers with a range of abilities on board our RIBS. To participate, customers must be able to board and disembark the boat (with assistance if required) and hold on whilst the boat is moving.

Our friendly bookings team and skippers are always available to assist those who may require additional help. For further details about getting on and off the boat, please see our access statement.

Can we bring our dog onboard?

For safety reasons, we cannot take dogs onboard our RIB tours and do not have suitable premises to dog sit whilst you are on a trip. Please ensure you have made suitable arrangements for your furry friend, prior to checking in.

Where do we park?

Menai Bridge is a small town with limited on-street parking, however there are five car parks in the town, all within a short walk of our reception. Please allow plenty of time to park before checking in for your RibRide. Menai Bridge car park map.

Some of our group at not going on the RibRide. What do you suggest they do while they wait?

Menai Bridge is a relatively small town but has some excellent places to grab a drink or something to eat. Below are some recommendations, all within a few minutes’ walk of our office;

  • Dylans -the award-winning restaurant next door
  • Plus39 – fantastic Italian coffee and cake, focaccia, brushette and pinsa (a type of pizza)
  • Green Olive – Vegan café

Please note it can be difficult to get into some places, particularly during busy periods, so please call ahead to book, if possible.

If you would like to stretch your legs there is a lovely circular walk from the RibRide office, taking you under Menai Bridge, along the Belgian Promenade to Church Island and back through the woods. Please ask at the Bookings office for the full route.

What if I need to cancel by booking?

Bookings can be cancelled up to 7 days prior to departure. In this case we will issue a full refund minus a 10% admin fee.

If cancelled less than 7 days prior to departure, you are not entitled to a refund but will receive a voucher (valid for 12 months) to the value of your trip.

No refunds are issued for latecomers or no shows.
