We operate in a wild and beauty area all around Anglesey. We take RIB Riders out to see the island from a different angle, learn more about the marine life and have an adventure. It is important for us to protect the marine environment while we interact with it. It is a challenging balance to maintain.
We run five RIBs from Porth Daniel in Menai Bridge on the Menai Strait all year. There are three seasonal departure locations Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Holyhead. We also have two RIBs for our RYA school along with a growing fleet of sports and fishing boats used by our private members the Marine Club.
Our team look after our RIBs. The Skipper carry out a through 12 point check every morning. This makes sure the RIBs are safe and ready for a day on the water. At the end of the day the RIBs are taken off the water, cleaned and tucked up in a made-to-measure cover for the night.
The RIBs work for an average 3-400 hours a year. Our newest engine is a Yamaha 350 V8. This marine engine has great fuel economy for its size and power. It is very quiet on tick-over and we have found it great out on the water.
The RibRide team carry out all our servicing in-house. We think it probably takes us longer but it also means we can care for the engines and keep them in tip top condition, always ready for adventure.
As the RIBs are taken off the water at night we don’t have to use anti-fouling paint on the boat hulls. Anti-fouling paints usually contain a biocide, or toxin, to prevent any organism adhering to the paint. We don’t have to use this paint and avoid the potential harmful effects it might have. To prevent this build-up of fouling we wash our RIBs every evening using Ecover Washing Up Liquid. Ecover has fast and complete biodegradability with minimal impact on aquatic life.
We are working to become the first Welsh accredited business to gain a ‘Blue Flag Award’ for sustainable boat tour operators. The Blue Flag Awards are managed by Keep Wales Tidy, one of Wales’ leading environmental charities.
We are working on our accreditation and have had to look at all aspects of our business. We are making sure we have environmental sustainability at the heart of our day to day operations.
During the winter months we have less RIBs on the water. We offer scheduled trips on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays till October half term. Then the ‘Bridges and Swellies’ trips run on Wednesdays and Saturdays from November till February.
If you want to book the whole RIB for a family or event we are happy to get a RIB on the water at any time of year.
The winter is an important time for the RibRide to carry out essential maintenance and engine servicing. This helps us to keep running efficiently and reliably all year.
We are passionate about RibRide. We try to provide the best adventure experience for all . To care for the environment and keep our business sustainable.
